What must be done to request the birth certificate of the newborn? And the tax code? What is the birth certificate and how do you communicate the choice of the pediatrician? Here’s everything you need to know about your baby’s first papers!
Is your baby about to be born or has it already been born, but you don’t know what documents to prepare after the birth ? Here is a very simple guide on how to request the first documents of your baby, including the birth certificate.
The birth certificate of the newborn is the document indicating the date, place, time, gender of the child and the name given to him. This document also contains the citizenship and residence of the parents or whoever takes their place, and is issued only after receiving the birth certificate from the medical personnel present at the time of birth.
Once born, in fact, the baby is taken to a room used for the very first pediatric checks. It is here that, with the father, the doctors certify the birth of the child, indicating on hospital letterhead:
- name and surname of the newborn
- sex
- date and time of birth
- name , surname , tax code and date of birth of the mother
With this document, the parents will then be able to go to the municipality of residence , to register their baby at the registry office.
What is the newborn’s birth certificate used for?
This document is very important and is issued by the municipality of residence of the parents at the time of registration at the competent registry office.
According to the art. 1 of the Civil Code:
Legal capacity is acquired from the moment of birth. The rights that the law recognizes in favor of the conceived are subordinated to the birth event.
This means that the birth event must be registered in order for the child to acquire civil rights . The declaration of the birth is a right of the person and is obligatory by law.
The declaration of birth is made to allow for registration in the municipal register of civil status. To do so, you need the certificate of birth which is issued by the medical staff present at the birth.
How long does it take to register a birth?
The times for requesting the birth certificate of the newborn vary according to the parental situation.
To obtain the birth certificate, it is first necessary to register the birth , which can be done by one or both parents:
- within 3 days of the birth in the case of married or single parents. In this case it will not be necessary to go to the municipality , but the Health Directorate will send the documentation to the registrar of the municipality in whose territory the birth center is located or, at the request of the parents, to the municipality of residence.
- within 10 days of the birth, in the case of married or unmarried parents, at the Civil Status Office of the municipality of residence of one of the parents.
In the case of unmarried parents , both the mother and the father, together with the newborn, must present themselves at the municipal offices .
Parents must remember to bring their identity documents and the certificate of birth on hospital headed paper.
In the case of an anonymous birth , the notification of the birth can be made by a special attorney, by the doctor, by the midwife or by another person present at the birth.
How to request the tax code of a newborn?
Alternatively, you can also choose your pediatrician through the Online Health Service, by accessing your Electronic Health Record in your region . This again once you have obtained the tax code of the newborn and the accesses (SPID) for the Electronic Health Record.
