10 tips for a peaceful pregnancy

We don’t have the magic recipe to live the 9 months of sweet waiting in peace, but we can suggest how to make it more likely that everything will go the right way.

Start laying the foundations for a peaceful pregnancy as soon as you decide to have a baby. Adopting a healthy lifestyle is a long-term investment in you and the life you will create.

Preconception exams

Preconception exams are free  (fee-free). Have them prescribed either by your family doctor or better by the gynecologist when you go for a check-up before starting the dance.

If there are cases of hereditary diseases in the family, it is also better to consult a geneticist. If the pregnancy has already begun, genetic tests on the fetus are always possible .

Folic acid

If the pregnancy came suddenly, don’t worry, start the day of the happy news.

It has been scientifically proven that taking this vitamin decreases the probability of fetal malformations affecting the neural tube, reduces the risk of heart defects and promotes the correct growth of cells, especially muscle cells.

Keep your weight under control

This does not mean undergoing strict diets but trying to have a balanced diet rich in all the necessary nutrients.

Even in pregnancy it is good to follow the rule of 5 meals, without skipping one, and each one must present foods that bring the essential nutrients.

Eat balanced

Our dietician has advised us on the best diet during pregnancy .

During pregnancy, you should never miss seasonal vegetables and fruit that must be well washed before using them.

Also important is fish rich in fatty acids and omega 3 which help the correct development of the child’s nervous system

Exercise

Unless there are contraindications dictated by your doctor, moderate physical exercise is important to reduce the risk of gestational diabetes and hypertension.

Physical activity during pregnancy  also favors greater resistance to effort and faster labor, a dream destination for every pregnant woman 🙂

Strengthens the pelvic floor

We have often stressed the importance of exercising the pelvic floor. This prevents sagging of the pelvic floor tissue and incontinence problems that can arise after pregnancy and childbirth.

Maintain oral hygiene

Well yes, like when you were a child, someone might keep reminding you to brush your teeth 🙂 Teeth and oral mucosa are particularly vulnerable to infections and must be kept under control.

Before starting the search, possibly do a check-up with the dentist to evaluate if there are cavities to be eliminated.

Hygiene and body care in general are very important during pregnancy when the immune defenses are a little lower, making us susceptible to attack by microorganisms of various kinds.

Not smoking

For many it can be taken for granted but there are those who find it very difficult to quit a habit that is harmful to their own health and that of the unborn child.

Secondhand smoke is also harmful, so when you decide to have a baby, if you both smoke, try to quit together.

The motivation is given that exposure to smoke increases by 20% the probability that the child will be born underweight with all the consequences of the case.

E-cigarettes are currently banned for pregnant women because there are insufficient studies on their short, medium and long-term effects. The fact that they are nicotine-free does not mean that they are free of toxicity.

Relax

Stress is not good for you or for the baby you are carrying. Perhaps help yourself with specific courses for pregnant women such as yoga or courses in the swimming pool.

Work in the right way and at the right time

If you feel good, work during pregnancy helps you distract yourself, keep you active and not isolate yourself. However, avoid overexerting yourself.

Pregnancy is not a disease, it is a moment in your life full of emotions but also of responsibility. From now on, it is you who invest in the health of the child you are carrying.

Your every choice will have important consequences, decide the best for you and your baby!
