The world’s most detailed images of a fetus in the belly

It is a fetus of only 20 weeks of pregnancy during a special morphological ultrasound .

If you look carefully you will see that it plays with the umbilical cord, stretching and moving continuously. Incredible right?

They are the clearest images ever obtained of a fetus inside the mother’s uterus .

This is the result of studies by a team of researchers, part of the iFind Project , who combined the data obtained from a new technique considered safe in pregnancy. This technique combines algorithms, magnetic fields and waves to obtain images with a resolution never seen before

In the footage,   the fetus is seen fumbling with the cord, turning its head from side to side, stretching back, and finally kicking hard with both feet. So strong that it makes mom’s bump wobble.

Such a detailed scan has been developed to allow better screening for fetal anomalies.

Corrective technology

The video above was made possible because computer algorithms automatically  corrected for the tiny fetal movements the baby makes during the scan. In this way it was possible to obtain sharp images.

When doing a normal ultrasound, if the baby moves a lot like this one in the video, the images you get make it practically impossible to tell if everything is fine and the mother has to come back to repeat the ultrasound.

Researchers and doctors hope to develop the technology so that it will eventually involve four probes that automatically move around the top of mom’s belly to get the best picture.
