The placenta, more than an organ? Discovering placentophagy

For centuries and everywhere in the world, the placenta was venerated and occult powers were conferred, considered as the twin of the newborn or as its guardian angel. It was treated with respect and rites were organized (even today in certain cultures) to welcome it, to thank it for its protective and nourishing role or even to bury or consume it.
Today in our Western cultures, the placenta is regarded as simple biological waste. Most people are unaware of this “extraordinary organ” and its fascinating properties.

This article aims to do justice to this important organ and propose more respectful ways to treat it for the greatest benefit of the mother and her baby.

At placentophagy

Placentophagia or eating your baby’s placenta is an unusual and even controversial practice for most people The placenta contains a lot of iron, proteins, minerals and other nutrients that are exactly proportional to the needs of the mother after childbirth. In addition to compensating for the loss of iron, the hormonal drop, restoring energy, the placenta has wonderful properties. In fact, the mere fact of consuming a piece of raw placenta (blended with fruit juice) after childbirth allows you to limit blood loss. The hormones present in the placenta immediately make contact with the uterus and stop the bleeding. Midwife Ibu Lim Robin (Bali)she says that more than once she resorted to this practice for a postpartum hemorrhage. It is as effective as a drug, but being produced by our body it is assimilated better giving a better response.

In the ancient practice of Chinese Medicine it was natural for a new mother to consume her own placenta, drying it and reducing it to powder. It became a food supplement for the mother throughout the puerperium to counteract the loss of blood and therefore of energy.

Today, this practice is confirmed by many empirical experiences. After the expulsion of the placenta (the afterbirth ), very calmly (even after 2/3 hours) after the cutting of the cord, the preparation of the placenta begins . It is gently washed and then cut into thin slices. It dries in an electric dryer (8/10 hours). Once completely dehydrated, it is reduced to a powder and encapsulated. On average, one hundred capsules are obtained. The capsules are taken every day during the puerperium, then the doses are gradually reduced during exogestation ( 9 months after the birth of the child).

The women who have recognized the benefits of placentophagy tell of an immediate sense of well-being after taking the placenta powder, the milk has never been lacking (it could even anticipate the milky whipped) and the vital energy had improved.
It is a real endogenous resource: perfectly suited to the needs of the mother as it is produced by her. A tailor-made supplement, certainly organic and ecological!

Or, from a fresh piece of placenta you can prepare a mother tincture , or an alcoholic maceration of placenta. After a lunation (new moon), the mother tincture is ready to be diluted several times in order to obtain different remedies in response to the small discomforts of childhood.

Various dilutions for the various symptoms of the little one : infant colic, fever, skin irritations, colds, agitation, teething, after vaccine, strengthening the immune system, etc.

An ally also for the mother in moments of tiredness , stress, to increase milk, in menstrual disorders, etc.
The placenta continues its role through these different preparations. It is an extraordinary resource for both mother and child.

Midwives and doules can come to your home to prepare these remedies together.
