The anti colic massage of the newborn. The sun-moon movement

During the first three months of life, many newborns (statistics say from 5 to 25%) show real crying crises mainly concentrated in the evening hours.

Their regular occurrence, their persistence for hours, the suffering attitude of the child who keeps his legs bent and his fists closed, makes them defined as gaseous colic.

The causes of colic are not yet known with certainty, it is thought to be due to a slowdown in intestinal transit which causes an accumulation of air, such as to cause swelling and tension. Others consider the alteration of the intestinal bacterial flora to be the main cause, which is why they prescribe suitable lactic ferments to make them pass. Still others believe that the cause of persistent crying is discomfort due to sensitivity to external stimuli (crowding, noise, lights…).

It is important to consult with the pediatrician to rule out other causes of the baby’s crying .

The midwife in the video demonstrates a massage technique to prevent baby colic  in a completely natural way. The technique in question is called sun-moon due to the movements that are performed with the hands.

Here’s how:

Put yourself in a comfortable and safe position in front of the baby: look at his tummy as if it were a clock, 12 at the top and 6 at the bottom.

Use massage oil suitable for children and start the movement from point 6.

Using your left hand, draw a semi-circle from 6 to 12 (bottom to top) and back to 6, thus drawing a full circle. Now with your right hand do the opposite, massaging from 12 to 6 (drawing a crescent). Repeat the movement six times to help move the air bubbles in the intestine, always very gently.

Finally fold the legs towards the tummy and… poof 😀
