Stork under the Christmas tree? From today is the favorable time to conceive a child

If you search the net for talismans, various legends or scientific arguments to be able to conceive a child, you will surely come across this piece of news published a couple of years ago on .

In this article, the pediatrician Italo Farnetani   explains why the winter solstice would contribute to an increase in conceptions. According to the pediatrician, the probability of getting pregnant from the solstice onwards in our country would in fact increase by as much as 22.3%, but above all in the central-south.

The winter solstice happened a few hours ago, exactly this morning at 5.30 . In that instant the sun reached its lowest position on the earth’s horizon, and therefore from that precise moment we definitively entered winter.

From the winter solstice onwards, the days finally begin to lengthen and  together with the rebirth of the days there is also that of sex hormones . The extra hours of light stimulate the epiphysis, an endocrine gland sensitive to the photoperiod. Exposure to light inhibits melatonin production in a dose-dependent manner. In this sense, the epiphysis seems to be one of the main causes of the rhythmic variations of sexual activity, both daily and seasonal (especially in animals). With the increase in the hours of light, the epiphysis inhibits the secretion of melatonin, a substance that in a certain sense “puts you to sleep”! the body (often melatonin is taken to sleep better!) and blocks sex hormones. With the increase in the hours of light, therefore, the hormones that contribute to conception are released .

If we add to this the icy cold outside that makes us want to stay warm at home, the public TV that does not broadcast anything of interest and the Christmas atmosphere that reigns in these days, with the rebirth of affection … everything contributes to increasing the desire of pampering.

In short, everything seems to favor the desire to expand the family, economic crisis permitting, so GET TO DO !

I remind you that some time ago we launched a survey to understand whether or not there was a more fertile month than the others and if you want to find out, go here .

Finally, the children born in these months, from the solstice onwards, seem to have some advantages, in fact on average they are a few millimeters longer.
