Retroverted or retroflexed uterus and fertility problems

Many aspiring mothers write to us worried about having a retroverted uterus. That’s why I asked Dr. Tinelli, a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology, to clarify once and for all that the uterus in this position does not cause any fertility problems:

  • A: normal position: anteverse
  • B: anteflesso
  • C: retroverso
  • D: retroflesso

“ The retroverted uterus, i.e. the body of the uterus facing backwards makes an angle of less than 120° with the uterine neck, is a variant of the normality of the normal position of the uterus which is anteverted.

In the past, especially at the beginning of the last century, the retroverted uterus was considered a cause of infertility. For this many surgical techniques have been invented to correct it.
Today we know that the retroverted uterus is not a pathology that can affect a woman’s reproductive cycle. So infertility depends on many factors but not on this.
For a young couple with normal relationships (two-three a week) the time taken to search for a child is normally one year.”
