Prenatal diagnosis: activate the resources to deal with it with Ericksonian hypnosis

Morphological ultrasound almost always means finding out if the stork will carry a pink or blue bow. In some cases, unfortunately, unexpected and shocking news arrives: something is not going as it should in the child.

Even when it comes to malformations or conditions that are treatable and have a low impact on the child’s quality of life, the emotional reactions can be very intense and complex.

In many cases, it is a real trauma : recurring and intrusive images or thoughts, sleep disturbances, marked reduction of interest in anything, feelings of detachment or estrangement from others, widespread anxiety, reduced affectivity, difficulty see future prospects.

A long-term trauma

Studies show that trauma is an important risk factor for the establishment of a healthy parent-child relationship and its harmful effects can also have long-term repercussions. In many cases, the effect of the trauma related to the diagnosis has a more significant impact on the child’s life than the physical condition itself.

Some mothers and fathers, for example, are unable to look at the photos of their newborn child, continue to relive the anguish even if the problem is overcome and experience their child as fragile, sick and delicate, limiting the possibility of exploring the world, autonomy and self-esteem.

It is important to intervene as soon as possible to give future mothers and future fathers the opportunity to activate the resources necessary to accommodate the little one and his needs. It is not true that time will fix things: in many cases, in fact, time remains “frozen” and with it anxiety, malaise, depression.

One method: Ericksonian hypnosis

In these cases, Ericksonian hypnosis represents a very useful and effective tool because it has no side effects and can be easily integrated with treatment programmes. First of all, it facilitates the resolution of traumas and favors the re-establishment of a good emotional balance, an indispensable prerequisite for facing the most demanding challenges with lucidity and strength.

Furthermore, it allows you to work in a delicate way with both personal and couple experiences so that both parents can actively participate in welcoming the new born.

Interventions designed on these principles make it possible to strengthen the couple’s bond and lay the foundations for a serene family nucleus. Finally, it enhances and makes available the emotional and relational resources that can help transform children’s difficulties (small and large) into possible strengths and resilience (the ability to cope with life’s challenges).

Hypnosis is a natural state that emerges spontaneously several times a day and which allows you to recover energy, rework your experiences, get in touch with your fantasies, desires and potential. Those who study and practice hypnosis learn to access this state whenever they want (to find out more click here ).
