Pregnancy tests: which ones to buy

In pharmacies (or even in supermarkets) they sell the most disparate brands of tests that can be easily carried out at home and which give a very reliable answer after a few minutes.

Nowadays it has become super easy to check your pregnancy status .

When you’re late and have had unprotected intercourse, the only way to know if you’re pregnant is to get a test or blood draw to check for beta HCG.

The most common pregnancy tests which are sold in packs of one or two sticks (the price ranges from 10 to 25 euros depending on the quantity), identify the state of pregnancy from the first day of the period delay (if this is regular naturally).

There are also so-called “digital” tests which, instead of colored strips, have a small display where the words “Not Pregnant” or “Pregnant” and the weeks since conception appear.

Which pregnancy test to buy?

Generally the tests that come in pharmacies are all very reliable. There are many brands and types. The most common are the 2-band ones with a plastic structure and  cap

If both windows are colored, the test is positive.

One of these is the First Response which, according to the manufacturers, can be performed up to 6 days before the delay (therefore already at 8 a.m. by calculating an average luteal phase of 14 days.

However, we know that if ovulation is not monitored, the risk is to take the test too soon. The advice is to never take a pregnancy test before 14 to avoid false negatives .

Canadian pregnancy tests

There are very cheap Canadian pregnancy tests  on the market with a sensitivity of 10 mIU / ml.

They are similar to Canadian ovulation tests, usually have a blue handle that says the pregnancy hormone, beta HCG.

ATTENTION: in recent months we have collected dozens and dozens of testimonies of tests of this type that give misleading results:  ghost lines or evaporation lines that deceive women and which, when tested with more reliable pregnancy tests, discover that the pregnancy is not in progress as they had hoped. 

There are also pregnancy tests with 3 bands because they additionally indicate the period of pregnancy by evaluating the intensity of the coloring of the third strip. In this case, however, it is better to rely on digital tests if you want to have an indication of the weeks since conception.

Clearblue digital pregnancy tests

Digital pregnancy tests are becoming more and more popular , the most used is the digital Clearblue which confirms, with a message on the display, if you are pregnant and indicates how many weeks.

The weeks to which the result of the Clearblue digital pregnancy test refers are those relating to conception. So when they indicate 1-2 weeks Pregnant it means that 1-2 weeks have passed since conception.

However, we would like to remind you that the count of the weeks of pregnancy always refers to the date of the last menstrual periods by international convention.
