Pediatric unblocking maneuvers (Heimlich and others)
The suffocation of children is one of the most present fears in parents from the moment we start weaning. How to deal with them and how to intervene in case of need?
Are we prepared for such an emergency? Most parents or grandparents who care for children are not . For this reason it is essential to know the maneuvers of unblocking, from those in the pediatric age to those of the adult. It’s about saving a life!
Food but not only
In this article, through the videos below, we will take care of giving you some useful information for infants who may risk suffocation due to regurgitation (opinions are very conflicting on this issue) and information on maneuvers for older children who are starting to eat solid foods in pieces.
Obviously the possibility of suffocation does not come only from food, but also from forgotten objects around the house that children put in their mouths in their first exploratory phase of the world.
The first lesson to learn is therefore: no dangerous objects left unattended, remembering that for a small child even an innocent ball is a dangerous object .
Videos of the maneuvers
We do this through some explanatory videos by Dr. Marco Squicciarini – vice president of Happy Family and volunteer doctor expert in basic pediatric resuscitation techniques who for many years has been promoting the diffusion of pediatric unblocking maneuvers in schools, canteens, hospitals and University.
The advice, however, is to participate in training courses. Look for the closest one in your area (see link at the bottom of the post) by inquiring at the municipality or the ASL. These courses will prepare you to be prepared and responsive in the event of an emergency of this type that could actually save the life of your child or those in need.
Timeliness and the right maneuvers are everything: those who are suffocating hardly wait for an ambulance, however fast.
We also recommend the participation of grandparents who often look after the children during meals and any other person who may be involved.
How to cut baby food?
As always, preventing a danger is always better than having to solve it. Below we offer an interesting series of videos on how to cut food for children: apple, carrot, tomato and more. Look at them, they are nice and very instructive (and not at all obvious).
Do you want to take courses on life-saving maneuvers?
- Calendars and courses of the Red Cross aimed at the population
- Salvamento Academy project dedicated to all those who intend to promote and spread the culture of first aid in the community through training courses, in particular for associations already engaged in various capacities in the field of rescue, volunteering, sports, social or cultural
