Moms and sport in times of Covid 19
Gyms, swimming pools, dance schools have been closed for months now. Wellness enthusiasts as well as those who had finally decided to do healthy physical activity to feel better, correct ailments or get in shape, found themselves at home overnight without services, courses and instructors who could follow them.
Unfortunately, although sport is undoubtedly the main ally of body and mind health, the one played indoors and / or in a group is considered one of the main causes of contagion from covid19.
Enthusiasts have moved outdoors, on the street and in parks or have carved out and equipped a space at home. Unfortunately many stopped without the right push… this stop made us lazy!
This laziness especially affects mothers who, often finding themselves without help , with children at home with the slightest sneeze or with kindergartens and schools closed, are already very tried by the management of work and/or domestic commitments .
With the children who call out to you every two by three because they wake up just when you have started the first squot, then they are hungry, thirsty, they have to change the diaper/pee, take that toy, jump on you, see that cartoon, “Not this! The other one”, the yogurt falls, “Mammaaaaa!”, “Tell me love?” “Nothing!” etc. So on repeat until night sleep… Thinking about training at home really seems like an impossible mission!
Warning: you don’t improvise as an instructor, just as you don’t improvise as a sportsman.
And let’s not underestimate this detail. Too intense training without the right attention to safeguarding delicate points of our body can create more damage than useful, then resulting in disorders that are not always easy to dispose of or which can become chronic.
Moms today like to be fit and this is positive, but we don’t need to be in a hurry to lose weight, rather we need to give ourselves time to recover, listen to each other and aim for well-being! The female body is a temple, always precious, and when it is in the period of pregnancy and postpartum it needs more attention.
YouTube is certainly a very large pool of material for fitness as well; many on a recorded video promise you to burn off, lose weight and sculpt but are we able to recognize if a workout is for us, for our body, for our current state of health and for our well-being?
A case in point is comparing the habit to do-it-yourself diets or read in the newspaper. They are so generic that even if they could work in the ultimate goal of making us lose weight, we will hardly keep the results.
This warning is always valid but especially in the maternity phase where relying on video tutorials with too intensive or inadequate workouts could lead to overloading the now weakened ligaments, bladder prolapse and worsening of abdominal diastasis. Oh yeah, no kidding!
Exercise is recommended! It makes the body produce endorphins, which benefit both the mother, improving her mood and counteracting anxiety and stress, and consequently the baby. However, it is better to turn to professionals in the sector, to those who deal with physical well-being by trade.
With gyms closed, many professionals have moved courses online, and LIVE mode is definitely preferable, as the instructor can peek at your movements, answer your questions and adapt the program to any specific situations.
Dance With Me Online – a perfect activity for moms!
