Maternity clothing do it yourself: tricks to enlarge clothes
The period of pregnancy has been for me a source of great joys, but also of some “concerns”. If in the period before being pregnant the question I ask myself today? was sporadic, in pregnancy it became daily because as the belly grew the number of clothes available decreased.
So, fixed as I am with DIY, my challenge was immediately to implement tricks and stratagems of all kinds in order to enlarge the clothes even a few centimeters and be able to wear them as long as possible. Because let’s face it, having to buy an entire maternity wardrobe is a real hassle and not putting on your favorite jeans and pants anymore just a shame.
Maternity clothing do it yourself
What I’ll show you today are some examples of DIY maternity clothing that you can get with needle and thread starting from existing clothes in the closet. With these tricks you can enlarge trousers and jeans and make comfortable and wide blouses, sweaters and t-shirts.
Enlarged jeans on the pockets
To continue to wear your jeans or trousers at least for a while, you can widen them at the waist and make them more comfortable by sewing sweaters, preferably in the same color as trousers, instead of strap and pockets. In this way the trousers can always be buttoned but with an elastic waist.
High-end jeans
If instead you want to wear those pants even when the belly is nice big, you can unstitch the strap and curved over a high band always in knitwear. The trousers will rest under the belly, but the band will hold everything. even when your belly is big, you can unstitch the strap and bend over a high band, always in jersey.
Trouser cover band
If, on the other hand, you want to wear your favorite jeans without making any cuts or seams, but you have to keep them open because they no longer close, you can create a jersey band to put on the hips and over the trousers. This way the band covers the open button, covers the stomach and is also nice to wear with a cropped shirt.
T-shirt curled on the hips
This tutorial is perfect for transforming an anonymous long tee into a versatile and comfortable tee that will become your pregnancy favorite. To do it, just sew some elastic bands on the sides and a drawstring ribbon on the bottom so you can adjust the width as your belly grows.
Blouse: tight to open behind
This is a very stylish solution to enlarge blouses. Just cut them on the back and sew a triangle of fabric, preferably in lace or a I see-not-see type fabric. In this way inside the blouse there will also be space for two 🙂
From tight golfino to comfortable cardigan
Here is a nice solution to adapt tight sweaters. Just make a central opening, a hem on the edges, two buttonholes on one side and attach two beautiful buttons in the other. Here the sweater too tight has turned into a comfortable cardigan. Just make a central opening, a hem on the edges, two buttonholes in one side and attach two nice buttons in the other.
As you have seen, the precautions to be taken to enlarge your clothes are simple and quick to do (more or less the same that I had used during pregnancy) and will allow you not to drastically change your wardrobe and maintain your personal style at least for a long time.
