How to increase milk production? The midwife answers
Diastasis literally means “separation”. In very simple words we speak of abdominal diastasis when the tendon that holds the two rectus abdominis together gives way.
It is an event that normally occurs during pregnancy because the rectus muscles must somehow separate to make room for the growing belly. Usually, after a few weeks after delivery, the two rectus muscles come together on their own.
To help this closure, let’s take advantage of a question from one of our attentive readers to list some measures thanks to our Midwife Sara .
Good morning,
I thank you in advance for the time you will devote to my email. I am 9 weeks pregnant +3 and have always loved jogging and pilates.
In this period I’m getting information to adapt the physical exercises to the new condition:) I walk briskly and no longer jog and I’ve inquired about pilates during pregnancy which has simpler exercises. But I have one fear, that of abdominal diastasis. Opinions are conflicting: some say Pilates helps create it, others don’t.
What should I do? Can I first of all continue and if so until when to do “classic” abs? Are prenatal pilates exercises – which are therefore also for the abs – really helpful? For me, exercise is important and pilates is a habit that I struggle to give up because it makes me feel good. P
Can you give me some advice on which movements to avoid? In fact, exercises “on the stomach” are proposed (as I also found on the site) or for example in which small circles are made with the legs. so I struggle to navigate between conflicting opinions. I state that I have no pain when exercising and that I also asked for a consultation with a nutritionist to be guided in a healthy diet for the child. I apologize for the very long message and thank you very much.
Chiara ps: congratulations for the site.. it’s a daily guide for me 🙂
Dear reader,
in some pregnancies, and therefore in some women, diastasis rectus abdominis is possible because it is due to the pressure that the baby places on the abdominal wall and to the hormones that are produced which thin the connective tissue.
As prevention it can:
- Correct your posture when standing without hunching your back
- Correct your posture when sitting by keeping your back firmly against the backrest and your feet flat on the ground with the entire plant.
- He can squat, swim or do yoga .
- Can do kegel exercises
- Can do breathing exercises
- Do not lift heavy objects
As for pilates, here is an article about it: https://conceivecorner.com/how-to-increase-milk-production-the-midwife-answers/
For everything else she has to postpone until after giving birth.
Sending a hug
Midwife Sara Notarantonio
