How to get pregnant right away: 10 tips to help conceive

If you are looking for a pregnancy, you will have noticed that the web is full of articles and videos that deal with the topic of how to get pregnant right away . But are there really tricks that allow you to conceive quickly? And if so, what are they?

Let’s start immediately by pointing out that to date there is no infallible method to get pregnant . In this article, however, we will look at some good habits that can help improve fertility and increase the chances of conception.

Of course, these tips may not work for everyone. On the other hand, it is important to keep in mind that there are few couples who get pregnant after one or two months of trying. In the majority of cases, in fact, conception occurs within 12 months of targeted sexual intercourse (i.e. occurring on the fertile days of the cycle).

1) Book a preconception visit

If you and your partner have decided to have a child, the first thing to do to optimize the chances of conception is to arrange a pre-conception consultation with your trusted gynecologist.

During this visit, the doctor will evaluate your health conditions and check that there are no risk conditions that could affect fertility, the progress of the pregnancy and the health of the baby.

In addition, it will give you all the information you need to get pregnant faster and start your pregnancy in the best possible way.

2) Stop using birth control pills

To be able to get pregnant immediately, stopping the use of contraceptives may seem like a trivial suggestion. What many people don’t know, however, is that it may take longer to get pregnant after using birth control, depending on the type used.

With regard to the pill , for example, it usually takes 1 to 3 months for ovulation to resume normally. On the other hand, in the case of a progesterone medicated spiral (hormonal spiral) , it should take about three months for the lining of the uterus to return to its former state.

3) Learn to recognize ovulation

To get pregnant, you need to have sex during the fertile period of the menstrual cycle, i.e. from 4-5 days before ovulation to the day after .

Many women use our fertile days calculator to identify this period. However, this tool is not a foolproof method of identifying ovulation.

To increase the chances of conception, the use of the calculator should be accompanied by the observation of some bodily signals that can help to recognize the moment of ovulation:

  • Changes in cervical mucus – Vaginal secretions (which in medical language are precisely defined as cervical mucus) change during the menstrual cycle and in the days preceding ovulation they become more abundant and “egg-white” , i.e. transparent and stringy.
  • Changes in basal temperature – By measuring the temperature every day upon waking (after at least 3 hours of sleep and before starting any activity), a gradual or sudden rise of a few tenths of a degree is observed at ovulation . The temperature remains high until the onset of menstruation, and then drops again.

In addition, a further aid in recognizing the fertile period is represented by ovulation tests .

4) Try to have frequent intercourse (but not too much!)

To facilitate conception, some couples have intercourse aimed only and exclusively on fertile days. In fact, it has been observed that an abstinence of more than 5 days reduces the amount of sperm present in the seminal fluid.

At the same time, having intercourse every day during your fertile period could also negatively affect your sperm count and make your semen less fertilizing .

According to experts, however, to increase the chances of getting pregnant you should have intercourse every other day in the week of ovulation , after an abstention period of 2-5 days .

But be careful: planning relationships too rigorously could make sex less spontaneous and even stressful.

For this reason, especially at the beginning of research, it may be advisable to avoid too many calculations and to have intercourse about 2 or 3 times a week (preferably every other day) .

5) Improve your diet

Which diet to get pregnant more easily? Experts recommend the classic Mediterranean diet, rich in fruit and vegetables. In particular, foods rich in iron and vitamins should not be missing from the table , with particular attention to folate .

Taking a folic acid supplement before conception is also recommended for all women trying to conceive, to reduce the risk of congenital malformations of the fetus .

In addition, heavy drinking may improve the quality of cervical mucus . On the other hand , the consumption of alcohol should be limited , as excessive quantities reduce the production of sex hormones .

Finally, to get pregnant more easily and promote a healthier pregnancy, it is important to control your body weight , avoiding gaining or losing too much weight.

6) Follow a healthy lifestyle

First stop smoking! Smoking increases the risk of infertility , as well as being a danger to the successful outcome of the pregnancy. In fact, smoking mothers have a greater risk of ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage and premature birth .

Regular exercise , on the other hand, helps maintain good general and reproductive health. However, be careful not to overdo it: excessive sporting activity, in fact, can have negative effects on the hormonal balance.

Finally, it is advisable to avoid contact with harmful chemical substances, such as pesticides for example: the domestic use of these substances for gardening can cause infertility , as well as malformations of the fetus and premature birth.

7) Avoid stress

More and more studies show how stressful situations related to lifestyle or working conditions can negatively affect fertility .

In particular, stress and lack of adequate night’s rest can alter ovulation and the menstrual cycle , reducing the chances of getting pregnant quickly.

8) Don’t overlook infections

Some diseases of the reproductive system, if not treated correctly, can become complicated and compromise fertility. Among the infections that can hinder conception are some sexually transmitted diseases such as chlamydia and gonorrhea .

For this reason, in case of intimate burning or foul-smelling discharge, do not hesitate to contact your gynecologist.

9) Avoid “toxic” lubricants for sperm

Some lubricants on the market contain substances harmful to sperm . If you want to use one of these products, make sure you choose one that is suitable for you and that does not contain any ingredients with a spermicidal effect: you can ask your gynecologist for advice if you wish .

10) Choose the sex position you prefer

The belief that some positions would increase the likelihood of getting pregnant right away is a false myth . So unleash your imagination without too many restrictions and rather prefer the positions you find most pleasant. In fact, he points out that the female orgasm is accompanied by contractions of the uterine cervix, which could favor the ascent of the spermatozoa towards the tubes and favor fertilization.

I Can’t Get Pregnant: When Should I Start Worrying?

If pregnancy does not occur after a year of targeted attempts (or 6 months for women over the age of 35 ) it would be advisable to request further investigation, to verify that there are no particular conditions capable of hindering conception.
