The Mayan Pregnancy Calendar is a game for guessing the gender of the baby based on the month of conception and the maternal age.

The  Mayan calendar of pregnancy or conception  is one of many traditional ways to  find out  in advance whether the baby will be a boy or a girl .

Just like the Chinese calendar and the lunar phase  theory  , the Mayan calendar is based on the calculation of two factors: the mother’s age and the month of conception.

As you can imagine, it’s just a hobby that  has no scientific value. That said, trying to guess the gender of the future baby can be a fun game to play alone or in company, waiting for ultrasound confirmation to arrive .

How to read the Mayan pregnancy calendar

To read the  Mayan pregnancy calendar table, you need two pieces of information:

• the month in which the pregnancy began ( month of conception )
• the maternal age at the time the woman became pregnant (up to a maximum of 40 years ).

How to calculate the date of conception

Alternatively, you can do a do-it-yourself calculation with the Ogino-Knaus method :

• if you have a regular cycle of 28 days, ovulation occurs approximately on the 14th day after the start date of the last period, if the cycle is 29 days on the 15th (and so on, adding or subtracting days depending on the duration of the cycle);
• if you have an irregular cycle, however, you can try to remember the ovulatory symptoms , to get an idea of ​​when ovulation took place.

In any case, remember that the first ultrasound you do will establish with a good approximation the date of conception, as well as the week of pregnancy and the expected date of delivery.

Who can use the Mayan pregnancy calendar?

This table is not only for those expecting a child for the first time, but can also be consulted for the second pregnancy, the third and so on. The game, in fact, could also be to see if the Mayans have guessed the prediction on the sex of your already born children.

Some women use the  Mayan calendar to plan conception , scheduling intercourse based on their desired gender. For our part, we advise against this practice, which has no scientific basis at all.  In this way, in fact, the times of the search for pregnancy could be lengthened, without having any guarantee of success.

The traditional methods to find out if it will be a boy or a girl are certainly fun but, as we said initially, they have no scientific value. Only through morphological ultrasound or some prenatal diagnostic tests (such as  fetal DNA testing , CVS or amniocentesis) is it possible to reliably determine the sex of the unborn child. In the latter case, however, these are tests that are not prescribed and recommended for this purpose, but to highlight any congenital malformations of the fetus.
