Easter crafts: here’s how to decorate eggs together with children

One of the most fun and creative activities you can do over Easter with children is decorating eggs together with children
If you have never done it I recommend it. If you do not pretend to create works of art and leave the children free to make and mess (maybe spread a sheet of paper on the table), the job can give great satisfaction, both in terms of result and in those of fun.

Eggs can be decorated in many ways but if you have never done it, I’ll explain how to proceed and what to get.
Know that you can decorate:

  1. boiled eggs. You can decorate them with markers, watercolors, crayons or whatever you want. However, since these are eggs that you will then have to eat, the best colors with which to color the eggs are those for food use or the colors made with natural elements (tea, coffee, saffron …)
  2. emptied eggs. If you do not want to decorate hard-boiled eggs, you can empty fresh eggs of its contents (here you will find explanations for emptying eggs) and proceed to decorate them when they sound empty. They become very light and but also very fragile so be careful not to break them.
  3. false eggs. On the market there are plastic eggs or even polystyrene born specifically to be decorated as desired. An excellent solution for those who do not want to use the real ones.

That said, you need some ideas. If you don’t have your own and you don’t have time to look for them on the net, I did it for you: here are 7 nice ideas you can do right now to decorate eggs with children.

Hot eggs decorated with crayons

Here is a creative idea that will have a lot of fun for children: use wax crayons to decorate boiled eggs while still warm.
Children can indulge in decorating eggs with drawings or doodles by mixing colors and creating nice smudges caused by crayons leaning on hot eggs.

Eggs decorated with markers

Coloring Easter eggs by hand with markers is the simplest idea of all and is also suitable for younger children.
If your kids love to draw, just hand them some markers (permanent ones seem to work best) and let them draw whatever they want.

Chick Eggs

Here are some very pretty eggs in the shape of a chick. To make them you have to color the eggs yellow and glue small elements such as beak and eyes made of paper or with adhesive tape. Do not forget to glue a small yellow feather.

Eggs like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

And to decorate eggs by making them look like kids’ favorite characters, here’s how to turn them into the faces of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Just color the eggs green, glue a colored ribbon and small swinging eyes.

Eggs with decoupage

In addition to coloring the eggs, you can decorate them with the decoupage technique and these eggs with photos of children and the whole family, are really very original fun! To make them you need to print a photo on a multi-ply paper napkin (tutorial tutorial explains how to do it) and glue the first veil of paper on the egg.

Eggs with applications

If you don’t feel like it or don’t have the right materials to paint, the eggs can also be decorated by gluing felt , felt or paper applications and transformed into lots of fun puppets like these.

Dot Eggs

Very simple and very cute these eggs made with stencils. To make them, just place the shape of a small animal on top of the egg (in this case they are rabbits), and make the children make many dots with the marker, at the beginning very close to each other and then gradually more and more distant. Once the stencil is removed, the silhouette of the drawn animal will be clearly visible.

Finally, if you don’t like decorating real eggs, but you prefer to entertain the children by decorating plastic or polystyrene eggs (they are sold in haberdashery or hobby shops) you can cover the eggs with lots of colored threads tags. All you need is a little glue (stick or vinyl glue is fine) and imagination in combining colors.
