Cold in pregnancy: male or female?

Do you have cold feet all the time during pregnancy, do you feel the chills or do you feel colder than usual? Find out if your baby will be a boy or a girl (but only according to tradition!).

According to popular beliefs, some pregnancy symptoms can be clues as to whether the baby will be a boy or a girl . Among these, we also find the cold felt by the expectant mother: in ancient times, in fact, it was believed that often feeling the chills or having cold feet while pregnant could depend on the sex of the unborn child.

Of course none of that is true. That said, it can be fun to make a list of all the possible symptoms traditionally linked to the baby’s gender and play a game of guessing whether the bow will be pink or blue.

Cold in pregnancy: male or female?

According to tradition, if the mother always has cold feet , often feels the chills or is simply colder than usual during pregnancy , she would be expecting a boy .

Conversely, warm feet would be a sign that a girl is on the way .

As we have already mentioned, there is no scientific evidence that the gender of the child is related to these symptoms. It is therefore better not to use this information to make important decisions, such as starting to buy the layette or organizing a gender reveal party to reveal the baby’s gender to relatives and friends!

Cold in pregnancy: what are the possible causes?

Most women feel hotter than usual during pregnancy due to hormonal changes and increased blood flow to the skin. Feeling cold is less common, but it can still happen.

In most cases, this symptom has no worrisome significance for the health of mother and baby. However, if the cold sensation is persistent it could signal problems such as an iron deficiency, the onset of an infection (such as a cold or flu) or thyroid problems , and therefore should be reported to your doctor or midwife.

Other symptoms related to the birth of a boy

Chills are just one of the symptoms that are traditionally related to the gender of the future baby According to other beliefs, a boy is likely to be born if the mother:

  • his hands are very dry ;
  • leg hair grows faster ;
  • craves salty, sour or protein foods (meat and cheese).

Other symptoms related to the birth of a girl

Conversely, the woman would be expecting a girl if :

  • suffer from severe mood swings ;
  • he has many pimples on his face ;
  • craving sweets, fruit or orange juice .
