Children’s lunch recipes: menu ideas for the whole week

What do I make for lunch for my child? If it’s often difficult to decide what to prepare for adults, when you add a little one with his needs it’s even more tiring. Here are quite a few ideas.

What am I making for lunch for my baby today? This is one of the most frequent questions that a mother asks herself. In today’s post you will find some recipes for children’s LUNCH with the menu for the whole week!

Here on Fertile Period we have dealt a lot with  weaning , dealing with the topic by age group, by type of food/recipe and giving useful advice on how and when to introduce the various foods. You can find all the suggestions in this regard here → All about Weaning

Today as I was saying, therefore I would like to go beyond the weaning period, dealing with the lunch menu for children aged 12 to 36 months, the age range in which weaning is (theoretically) finished and the children can (again theoretically) eat a bit of everything.
[I would like to underline that each child’s diet is a case in itself and it is not said that beyond the year all children can or should eat everything.]

Lunch menu ideas for children

As we well know, lunch is an indispensable meal and must be the richest of the day to keep a child’s energy level up. Normally, lunch should bring about 35-40% of the daily energy and must supply all the essential macro-nutrients: carbohydrates, fibres, proteins and fats.

A dish of pasta or rice combined with always varied and nutritious condiments, such as fresh tomato sauce, light meat or fish ragout or vegetables/legumes, are a great classic among first courses for children. To vary the menu, in addition to pasta or rice, the intake of carbohydrates for lunch is also ensured by a potato pizza or a savory pie with vegetables.
For lunch, fish , meat , eggs , cheeses, and above all legumes , rich in protein, can be a valid alternative to meat and fish.
All always accompanied by a side dish ofraw or cooked seasonal vegetables according to the child’s tastes  and finally a portion of fresh seasonal fruit.
