Children’s books: All the counts of Jolanda Restano

Since I was a child I have carried with me a defect, I believe congenital, of an extremely fast speech.

Those who talk to me for the first few times might be a little surprised. I realize it from the faces of those in front of me, who seem to be listening to what I’m saying but are still at the beginning of my speech, when instead by now… I’ve already finished it.

Over the years I have learned to say before speaking: be careful, I speak fast and I don’t notice it, if I’m upset I speak even more quickly! So if I’m catching a flight, please stop me in time!

I’ve always exploited this defect to enjoy tongue twisters and have rarely found anyone able to stand up to me. Not all flaws have a silver lining 😉 It’s one thing that if on the one hand penalized me in dialectic and communication relationships, on the other I was amused quite a bit.

This is why I have remained very attached to count nursery rhymes and riddles. And finding them all enclosed in a very nice book, also from a graphic point of view, is a wonderful gift for me.

All counts is the second book by Jolanda Restano  (author of the filastrocche.it blog) which uses illustrations by Cecilia Mistrali . The first published was All the rhymes of which we have already spoken just before Christmas.

Reading it takes you on a real journey through time, rediscovering riddles and tongue twisters of the Italian popular tradition that children really like. My daughter has been asking riddles to her grandparents, uncles and cousins for three days! During Easter days she didn’t move except with the book under her arm!

It’s a collection full of ideas for us parents and teachers too. The book was written in capital letters according to current pedagogical-didactic indications. And I went back to training with tongue twisters that I hadn’t dusted off in a while. My favorite? Apelles son of Apollo! Who challenges me?
