Breakfast in bed: a treat for the whole family

“The days should start with a hug, a kiss, a caress, and a coffee. Because breakfast must be abundant.” (Charles M. Schulz)

Breakfast in bed is a treat to indulge in at least once a week . A special moment that involves the whole family. Preparing it together is a lot of fun and it’s a nice way to give the right charge to the mornings , especially in this historical period in which we have been denied kisses, hugs and many of our outdoor habits.

Each member of the family can be assigned a task to do, so that everyone feels involved, even the little ones.

Naturally it is always better to adopt some precautions, to prevent a pleasant moment from turning into a source of stress with some small disaster! A  tray, perhaps made of wood or bamboo with raised edges, so that the risk of dropping food or drinks on the sheets is reduced, can be a useful ally! In any case, it must be roomy to be able to carry everything you need.

There are many recipes for breakfast that can be prepared in the company of children , preferably easy, delicious, but also fun, creative and beautiful to look at .

Some simple and delicious recipes

Yogurt is an excellent breakfast ally because it is healthy, light, nutritious and super versatile. In a bowl you can combine yogurt (white or whatever flavor you prefer) with granola and fresh or dried fruit, honey or maple syrup. It is a real complete dish, perfect to start the day. Beautiful to look at, rich and colourful.

Fun to prepare with children who can indulge themselves in inventing many compositions!

Yogurt is also an excellent ingredient for preparing delicious cakes. A simple recipe, recommended even for the laziest in the kitchen, is the 7-jar cake. Its name derives from the jars used as a unit of measurement to proceed with the preparation of the dough.

Ingredients:

  • 1 jar of white yogurt 125 ml
  • 2 jars of 00 flour
  • 2 jars of sugar
  • 1 jar of potato starch
  • 1 jar of seed oil
  • 1 sachet of yeast for desserts of 16 gr
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 jar of potato starch

In a bowl, pour a jar of plain yogurt. Using the same, measure two of sugar and add them to the yogurt. Whip with a whisk. Separate the yolks from the whites and pour the yolks into the yogurt and sugar mixture.

Then proceed with the seed oil, to be poured slowly with the whisk activated. Sift the flour and add it, little by little, to the dough. Separately, whip the egg whites until stiff and, when they are firm, with delicacy and movements from top to bottom, incorporate them into the rest. Preheat the oven to 180°C and, when it is hot, bake the dough that you have poured into a previously buttered cake pan.

The 7-jar cake needs to cook for around 40 minutes. Evaluate if cooking is completed by sticking a toothpick into the dough.

Coffee, cappuccino, juice or centrifuged?

Everyone in the family has their own tastes, especially at breakfast! There are those who cannot survive without a good coffee and those who need to receive a load of energy by drinking a juice or a smoothie!

A simple and quick centrifuge to prepare is the classic ACE juice or orange, carrot and lemon. For those who want to add a personal touch, try combining a small piece of ginger and half of an apple. For those who want to use yogurt also in smoothies, they can try mixing it with mango, melon and orange.

Ingredients:

  • 1 mango
  • 1⁄2 small white melon
  • 5 oranges
  • 3 tablespoons of natural yogurt

Cut the mango in half, peel it and remove the stone. Peel the melon and remove the pit, then cut it into two equal halves.
Peel the oranges.

Process the ingredients (mango, white melon and oranges) in the centrifuge. Pour the yogurt into a large bowl and mix it with the fruit juice.
