10 books to help children learn to read and write
Writing is a skill that children learn little by little and with a lot of practice, but for them it is a challenge and fun. Here you will find beautiful booklets to make them play with writing.
At about 18 months, babies enjoy doodling and making their first drawings, but they still don’t have motor control or hand-eye coordination to write the letters of the alphabet.
Around the age of three, however, children make their first attempts at writing by putting together lines and shapes at random. When they go to school, at the age of 5/6, they usually know some letters and use a pencil with some control.
These skills and knowledge are typically taught in kindergarten, but parents can also help stimulate children to write, even in preschool.
For example, one thing parents can do is be seen writing often (a shopping list or a greeting card) and talking to children about what they are doing. To encourage them to “write” it will be enough to reverse the roles and ask the children to write something and read what they have written.
Obviously they will doodle and invent something verbally, but this will make writing a fun and enjoyable thing for them and once they know how to copy patterns and shapes they will be ready to learn the letters.
The important thing is that parents do not impose anything but make everything like a pleasant game. They must show how to hold the pen correctly by correcting any errors, but they must not constantly correct the children and must not prevent them from using the hand they prefer. And anyway better to praise every attempt of the children (however shaky), rather than mortify them.
Children’s books to learn to write
To help children learn to read and write, parents can also use children’s books suitable for this purpose. So I have prepared a small selection of useful books whether the little ones are preparing for school, or just practicing at home. The books are full of useful activities to do, with practical and fun pages.
But before listing them, I recommend this text:

The book offers ideas and ideas to stimulate the senses and build sensory games at home and organize playful activities preparatory to learning to write and read easily.

This is an activity book, a book in which children, thanks to the rewritable pages and the erasable marker, can become familiar with the alphabet and improve their graphic skills without the fear of making mistakes. Children can draw following the tracks, practice with the letters of the alphabet, understand the correct relationship between the “sound” of the letter and the respective graphic sign and have fun erasing a thousand times. Well done book and much appreciated by parents. It’s packed with activities to do, great for bringing kids closer to writing and reading. Thanks to the erasable blackboard marker with which it is equipped, children can erase and repeat the exercises endlessly.

ABC 123 Play and learn with Peppa Pig
Peppa Pig is very popular with children and can be a stimulus to stimulate children. The book suitable for preschoolers, contains letters to write, stickers to stick, coloring pages, copying games of letters and words. Simple and intuitive, it requires the right amount of dexterity and knowledge that will increase the child’s autotisma.
Learn to write in block letters and cursive
Here are two very well done books that complement each other. One is used to learn how to write in block letters, the other in cursive. The activities present allow children to learn by playing and will lead them, in a gradual and pleasant way, to understand how to write the letters of the alphabet in capital letters in upper and lower case, to associate each letter with its sound and the formation of syllables for a first start to reading. Reading age: from 5 years. Where to find it →Learn to write in block letters

My first blackboard book
A very nice 48-page book, suitable for learning how to write many words through the imitation tracing method. The book is divided into two sections: in the first you can only use the pencil while in the second only the marker. It opens onto a rigid base so it becomes like a small slate and can be positioned vertically and placed on a flat surface. Reading age: from 3 years.
I learn to write the letters
This is also an easy and fun book to learn how to write letters. It is equipped with a magic slate with which to practice and contains tips and indications to know, recognize and write the letters of the alphabet. The magic slate is removable from the last page and very easy to use with a special pen attached to the book. The child can delete whenever he wants by scrolling the page back into the book. To have something different from books with letters to copy and transcribe, here is a nice idea: the book blackboard. It is a book with many blackboard effect pages on which children can write with chalk. Children can practice writing not only at home but also outside.
Connected wooden letters for tablets
If, on the other hand, you want something more technological, I found this game which is not a classic book but the perfect combination of traditional toy and touch-screen technology. It is a game with 26 wooden letters, connected to the tablet on the net, which helps children to read and write. There are 3 free apps inspired by the Montessori method. It is compatible with iPad but the Italian language is not guaranteed.
