Babymoon, the honeymoon for future parents
the babymoon is very similar in concept to the honeymoon, as it is a celebratory holiday, it is used to enjoy time together before the birth of a new child.
Whether it’s the first (or second or third) pregnancy, the arrival of a baby undoubtedly upsets one’s habits in the positive sense of the term. In the final months of your pregnancy you will be grappling with the excitement and jitters of a new arrival, and a pre-birth holiday, known as a babymoon, may come in handy. An apple moon for future parents.
What is the babymoon all about?
It can be very similar in concept to the honeymoon, in that it is a celebratory holiday . The babymoon is for enjoying time together before the birth of a new baby.
It is a trend that has begun to become very popular in Anglo-Saxon countries and is also spreading in Italy. Because, let’s be honest, once the baby is born, there will be for a longer or shorter time, few opportunities to enjoy a holiday that you will remember as such.
Some couples plan a babymoon just before the birth of their first child, to have one last vacation as a couple. But this does not prevent repeating the experience even with the second or third child, if you have the possibility of leaving the older children at home with their grandparents!
In short, there are no fixed rules, the important thing is to find time to relax before the “storm”!
It can be a week or a weekend.
If you can’t move from home, organize something nice in your area, the basic idea in the end is to spend a romantic and relaxing moment with your partner or a regenerating and fulfilling moment alone, regardless of where you are.
When should you babymoon?
Again, there are no predetermined rules.
You can plan a babymoon in any quarter, even the last one, however, if you really want to enjoy this relaxation time, timing is everything.
The most widespread advice is to program it for the second trimester when the woman is generally better , the nausea and tiredness of the first trimester have passed, the belly is not yet bulky, and it feels good.
In the third trimester there is always the risk of a preterm birth, there are pre-natal analyzes to be done, and planes, beyond precise weeks of pregnancy, no longer accept expectant mothers among their passengers. Usually the companies have the acceptance limit up to 36 weeks of pregnancy, but for any doubt it is better to check the regulation of each airline. Some indeed require a doctor’s certificate to fly.
Which destination to choose?
Before a trip, especially if it is a trip outside the country or continent, it is advisable to consult your doctor.
If you decide for a long flight, ask your gynecologist what precautions to take. Flying while pregnant is possible, but it is right to take some precautions.
It would be important to avoid any country with a Zika virus outbreak . It is a mosquito-borne virus which, if contracted during pregnancy, could cause serious malformations to the baby.
The Zika virus has been reported in many countries around the world, so before making plans for your trip, always consult the National Institutes of Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) websites to make sure that in your destination there are no particular epidemics in progress.
Of course, also avoid places with a high risk of malaria. Malaria during pregnancy can cause miscarriage, premature delivery and perinatal death. Malaria is a disease that is spread by a particular species of infected mosquito. Malaria mosquitoes are found in many parts of the world, including Brazil, Cameroon, Haiti and Honduras.
If you realize that you have too many travel limitations, try to reduce the km travelled, you don’t need to go far, look for a seaside or mountain post near you, perhaps with a SPA to take advantage of all the services dedicated to your well-being.
Even cheaper choice?
Stay at home but literally unplug: forget about the usual household chores, relax, stay in your pajamas, enjoy the days of doing nothing.
Why have a babymoon?
Birth is always a beautiful event, but we cannot hide the fact that, once the baby crosses the threshold of the house, things change radically. It could be a while before the pair can carve out some space for themselves.
Without forgetting that children have a considerable cost which indicates the budget for the holidays.
For this reason, the choice of having a babymoon is definitely the right one.
It represents an excellent time to not only reconnect with your partner, but also to clear your mind and relax. Use this time to focus on each other without work or other distractions .
What to do during the babymoon?
There is no right or wrong way to enjoy this relaxing time. For some couples it can be a moment to spend simply as a tourist in their own city, for others it can be a trip to a nature park, a museum, a lake, a weekend at the beach or in a wellness center in the mountains, for an unforgettable couples massage.
Make reservations at a restaurant you’ve always heard of and never got to visit, or go explore the attractions of a nearby city.
Whatever you do make sure there is an opportunity to relax.
Have you decided to spend your babymoon at home?
That’s okay, the important thing is that you find a way to enjoy a relaxing and romantic moment at home.
Equip yourself with a cover, remote control or a good book. Choose to dive into a marathon of a new series together, or read the naming book to choose your baby’s name. You can also decide to dedicate this time to cooking together and freezing the dishes for when the baby is born.
There is no right or wrong way to honeymoon. It’s about finding the right ways for you.
