Activities and crafts for children to do in the fall

Autumn is a bit like spring: mild temperatures, pleasant days and so many novelties offered by the new season, that it’s impossible not to go out with the children for some activity.

In fact, in the autumn period children, in addition to being able to observe nature take on new colors, can collect a little bit of everything. It will therefore be enough to take a walk to obtain natural materials useful for doing many creative autumn-themed jobs .

Bringing a bag it will be possible to collect dry leaves , chestnuts, pine cones, acorns, shells, sticks with which children can give vent to their creativity.

Activities and crafts for children to do in the fall

If you want to involve your children in making autumn crafts with the materials found during your walks , you can look at the collection of ideas that I have found for you.

Crafts with chestnuts

If you are lucky enough to be able to go looking for chestnuts or if you find horse chestnuts on the ground (much easier to find) do not forget to stock up on them. They can be used during the winter to make lots of nice games and crafts with your children. All you need to do is look for a few simple materials at home such as toothpicks, buttons and woolen threads to create cute little animals with paws  and even with hair . With the help of pieces of fabric, however, you can create a very original Memory game . And since in autumn there is also the Halloween party, you can transform the chestnuts into many small pumpkins.

Decorations with acorns

Another natural material that is easy to find on walks and under some oak trees are acorns . With the acorns, a few marbles and a little glue you can create many beautiful pendants and many beautiful decorations to hang up for Christmas together with the children.

Crafts with pumpkin seeds

Autumn is the season of pumpkins , very good for preparing excellent dishes for children , but also very useful for doing many creative chores (such as halloween pumpkins ). For example, after cleaning the pumpkin you can dry the seeds and color them. They will be useful to use to create original collages and drawings.

Autumn window decorations

Falling leaves and bare trees are one of the things children see most often in autumn . Even if we have no way to go for walks in the park to collect dry leaves, it will be possible to entertain the children with simple paper but by recreating bare trees and falling leaves on the window panes.

Drawings with dry leaves

If during your outings what you have managed to collect are only dry leaves,  use them to do this nice manual job. Draw a bare tree and invite the children to glue the leaves on the tree and also on the ground, in order to recreate an autumn scene.

Crafts with pine cones

Another easy-to-find material is pine cones. With pine cones you can really do a lot of chores, but this one in particular (which stimulates fine motor skills ) is really easy and suitable even for small children. Get some colored tissue paper and invite the children to make many small balls to put inside the pine cone. The pine cones will become  many small colored trees that you can place in the crib or use as decorations.

Munari’s tree

Building an autumn tree (Munari tree) in section is a very interesting activity that can be done as early as 3 year olds. This activity is not just a fun game, but a real teaching method for teaching children to change sizes . In practice, the children will have to build a large tree with cardboard elements, always remembering that each branch is thinner than the one that comes before.

If the days are still particularly pleasant and long, take the opportunity to organize a sort of treasure hunt. Prepare a box with a sheet showing the drawings of the things to look for (leaves, stones, berries, grass, pine cones, acorns, sticks) and Invite the children to look for the required materials. If there are more than one children, organize a competition, if there is only one child, reward him every time he brings something corresponding.

Once again I wish you a lot of fun and good walks (do them now because in winter it will be more problematic 😉 )
