A harmony close to the skin: what happens during a hypnotic induction

The Conference on Positive Psychology was held in Rome on 9 and 10 July 2017. During this event, an interesting empirical study was presented which helps to clarify the relational mechanisms underlying the hypnotic trance.

The work was carried out by the team of Dr. Nicoletta Gava , director of the Milton Erickson Institute of Turin , in collaboration with an important hospital in Turin.

Until now, despite dozens of studies having demonstrated the effectiveness of hypnosis, no research had highlighted what happens on a physiological level between the conductor and the subject during a hypnotic induction.

By interacting conductor and subject, they naturally tend to synchronize and feel in harmony “on the skin”.

What happens during a hypnotic induction?

What actually happens during hypnosis?

“ We have deepened the emotional-relational synchronization – explains Nicoletta Gava – between the conductor and the hypnotized subject, we have done it through the skin which is an excellent physiological conductor and we have observed an equal and symmetrical activity during the trance. The empirical study was conducted with 4 subjects and it is interesting to note the graphic variation between the simple relationship and the hypnotic trance capable of activating a marked emotional synchronization.

Thanks to this study and the data obtained, we will now expand the series in order to better understand the hypnotic phenomenon and the relationship that the trance induces.
