6 ideas for creating beautiful DIY crib mobiles!

You know I’m here to make you want to do creative crafts for you and your baby, right?

Well, then prepare paper, glue, threads, sticks, puppets, fabric, ribbons and everything that crosses your mind because today I’m taking you around the web and I’ll show you how you could make beautiful DIY crib mobiles .

Even if you think you are not capable of it, know that creating a mobile for children by yourself is not difficult and can be a stimulating creative challenge for you.

Try to use materials that you know how to handle best and that, in terms of colors, shapes and brightness, are such as to attract the attention  of your baby (you know, newborns love to look at things that move above their eyes) and choose a model of carousel not too demanding for your skills.

Here are the carousels that I have chosen for you and from which you can take inspiration.
You will also find the link that will take you to the tutorial.

1- DIY paper carousel

Do you like working with paper ? This carousel could be for you!
The stars are made with  recycled wrapping paper and scraps of colored and patterned paper bags, glued together; the circle where to attach the stars is made with a plastic strip, but it can also be made with a polystyrene or wicker crown.

2-Do-it-yourself wooden carousel

If, on the other hand, you like wood , you can create a carousel like this using a wicker crown, ribbons and wooden shapes with children’s subjects.
You can buy these materials at a hobby store or you can make your own if you know how to cut wood.

3- DIY carousel with fabric scraps

This mobile is really very beautiful and colorful and will attract your child’s attention.
You can make a similar one using lots and lots of colorful and patterned fabric scraps to sew to each other as you see in the picture. Hang them on a wooden circlet (the embroidery ones found in haberdashery are fine), covered with a wrapped strip of fabric.

4-DIY carousel with crystals

Do you have crystals from an old chandelier to spare ? Here is an enchanting carousel made with an iron circle covered with a curled strip of fabric and lots of crystals hanging from the wires.
What can I say…bright and very elegant!

5- DIY crochet carousel

If you love crocheting or even if you’re just a beginner, you can create a colorful crochet carousel like this one, creating cute little flowers to hang.
Just cover the plastic rings found in the bottles with low mesh and work small bows all around.
Play with colors and if you want apply some fun rattles. You can hang your flowers from a wooden or iron hoop.

6- DIY carousel with ribbons

Ok and now a very easy carousel  (actually I believe that there is no easier one than this) and you can do it too if you don’t really feel like a great artist.
Can you tie a knot? Here you can make your carousel by covering a circle of iron, cardboard or polystyrene, simply by knotting many colored ribbons.
And if you have small puppets in diapers you can fix them at the bottom of some ribbon.
They will make your colorful carousel even more cheerful.

Here, now tell me if I haven’t made you want to make a carousel for your baby’s crib!
And if someone tells you they want to make it for you as a gift, politely tell them that you don’t need it and that you will make it yourself.
