10 weaning recipes for babies 6-8 months, easy to prepare

Here are a series of recipes that are very easy to prepare for the early stages of weaning with the pattern of baby food during the day.

As a rule and if there are no particular impediments, pediatricians recommend starting weaning and introducing complementary foods to milk after the sixth month. After this age, in fact, the child also needs other nutrients in addition to milk and is already able to eat and digest different and increasingly solid foods.

However, this phase of change can be a source of great doubts and anxieties for parents. Weaning or self-weaning? When to start? How to introduce food? which ones are the most suitable? when the salt? when sugar? What about gluten?…in short, an endless series of questions that new parents ask themselves and to which they are unable to answer.

First baby food scheme: 6/8 months

Before going on to point out some good recipes for weaning, below you can find a brief summary outline* regarding when, what and how to proceed. Bearing in mind that it is generally recommended to introduce new foods one at a time, you will see that the scheme is easy: vegetable broth + cereals + meat or cheese or fish or legumes. Do not add salt.
(*the scheme is only indicative and does not represent a medical diet to follow. In all cases it is always good to follow the indications, quantities and times of your pediatrician).

First days:
vegetable broth* 180 g
cream of rice or corn and tapioca cream or semolina or multigrain: 3 tablespoons or triple 0 pasta: 2 tablespoons
extra virgin olive oil: 1 teaspoon
grated Parmesan: 1 teaspoon

after 5-7 days add to the first meal:
freeze-dried meat 5 g (1/2 jar) or homogenized 40 g (1/2 jar) or
fresh 30 g (boiled or steamed and then blended)

after another few days add:
pureed and pureed vegetables: 1-2 spoons.

After about 20-30 days:
second meal (at dinner) with vegetable broth + puréed vegetables: 200-240 g
multigrain or small pasta, 3 tablespoons
extra virgin olive or corn oil: 1 teaspoon
Parmesan: 1 tablespoon or low-fat cheese: 1 jar

Continuation of weaning,  8 months:
instead of meat and cheese in baby food you can introduce:
cooked ham cut into small pieces: 20-30 g
legumes (to alternate with meat)
fresh lean cheeses such as crescenza, ricotta, lean quartirolo
For fruit: add seasonal fruits such as apricots, peaches, plums (30-40 g)

Weaning recipes for babies 6-8 months

Even if this is not a rigid scheme to be respected to the letter, for your weaning recipes for 6-8 months it could be useful to know approximately that:

  • from 6 months : you can start with the first fruit-based snacks (the first are pear, apple, banana ); you can start the first meals with the most delicate vegetables such as potatoes, carrots, courgettes and sweet herbs ; more digestible meats such as lamb, rabbit, turkey, veal and cheeses such as  Parmesan, ricotta, robiola, crescenza, goat’s cheese can be introduced.
  • between 6-7 months : pumpkin, green beans, spinach, celery and fennel can be added to the recipes; chicken, beef, ham; sole, plaice, trout, hake, cod ; Bel Paese, caciotta cheese, fontina cheese, yoghurt.
  • At 8 months : meat broth is fine and recipes can be enriched with vegetables with a slightly more decisive flavor such as asparagus tips , leeks and artichokes and legumes such as lentils and peas. For fruit, go for plums, apricots, pineapples, peaches, citrus fruits.

And now let’s move on to our weaning recipes. Below I will show you some recipes that may be useful for preparing the first fruit snacks, the first creams and the first baby food with vegetables, meat or cheese.

Homemade pear and apple homogenized

Fruit is the first food other than milk that is recommended to be introduced during weaning. It can be introduced from 4-6 months proposed both in homogenized form and as grated fresh fruit. Pediatricians preferably recommend mid-afternoon or mid-morning starting with the pear, apple or banana blended or homogenized (do not add sugar or lemon) or grated. Here are two recipes for making homemade fruit homogenized.

Prune or fruit puree

As an alternative to homogenized, you can also prepare fresh seasonal fruit purees  such as plums, peaches, apricots. Below is the recipe for plum puree.
Weaning recipe→  Wash the plums, remove the pits and cut them into small pieces. Pour the fruit into the steamer basket. Cook the pieces of progna covered with a lid for about 15 minutes. Blend the plums by adding 50 ml of cooking water and a little lemon juice until the mixture is smooth and homogeneous. Let it rest and cool before giving it to the children. If desired, the addition of water can be replaced with milk and crumbled biscuits can be added.


Basic recipes: vegetable broth

The basis for preparing a baby food is vegetable broth . It’s so simple to make that maybe you don’t even need a recipe. To this broth you will have to add the various cereal creams or small pasta, meat, fish or cheese, making a single dish.

Rice cream with vegetables

Cream of rice is one of the first meals that are prepared for children. In this case the porridge is made only with cereals and vegetables without adding meat. Light and ideal for the evening, perhaps with the addition of some cheese.

Pasta with pumpkin cream

Pumpkin with its sweet taste and orange color is perfect for weaning as well as delicious. It is seasonal so it can be prepared in autumn/winter by making excellent baby food or creams. Easy to prepare!

Cream of peas and robiola with semolina

Here is a very good baby food, light and easy to prepare with the combination of cereals, vegetables and cheese.

Pappa with beef and vegetable puree

Here is an easy and good porridge with vegetables and the addition of meat. In this case beef has been added, but it could also be prepared with chicken, turkey or veal.

Fennel cream with cod

Fennel is a perfect vegetable for weaning the baby because it is tasty and digestible. It is in season in autumn and is excellent for preparing creams and baby food. You can add cheeses but also fish as in this recipe.

Pasta with green beans

Cream of green beans is another excellent weaning porridge because it has a delicate taste and a good texture. Simple and easy to prepare dish.


Fresh plaice porridge

Here is another light cream for little ones suitable for introducing fresh fish into the diet. In this case we are talking about plaice whether it is fresh or frozen, it is still very easy to cook.
